I guess I’ll try doing a blog and see how it goes. What to write about and how often? Politics? No way! Frivolous stuff, like if I’m picking my nose or not? Probably not! Secret things? Doubtful! Transplant and health issues? Yep! Family stuff? Sure! Writing, photography and other right-brain things? Definitely! How often? Don’t know! Love and hugs! Stay tuned…

Hi Kelli Welcome to our blog world. Great photo! How tall are you? I turned on the start a new thread feature in your blog. This can be used for titles to different subjects if you like. If you do not want this feature on, I can take it off for you.

Thank you guys! Rise’ I’m 5’8” barefoot. I will definitely be using the new thread feature. That’s a great way to organize posts, especially for someone like me who likes posting pictures. Hope I don’t bore anyone by showing old photos that I’ve previously posted. I’ve kind of lost track. I guess some of the buddies know that I’ve deactivated my Facebook account. It became too time consuming and I prefer being here on TxBuddies anyway. So what am I doing? Tomorrow, I see my PCP for some GI & urinary problems. What I really like doing, besides going to movies, is helping my dad with his writing projects. I help by doing research and giving him ideas after reading what he’s done. The screenplay work for Not So Brave is on hold until he finishes his novel set in the future. Not science-fiction, but multi-themed with great stuff that I can’t talk about. Speaking about my dad, he is holding his own after not so good news from his echocardiogram and nuclear stress test. He has dilated cardiomyopathy with severe ventricular dysfunction, mitral regurgitation, and left ventricular hypertrophy. His ejection fraction is 23. I got this stuff from the report. Now I know why he gets so tired walking, not enough oxygen is getting to his muscles & organs. Soon they will replace his ICD with a new one, his third. Well, I’m going to start looking for some pictures to post. Love to all!

My urine test came back positive for a urinary tract infection (UTI) so I'll be on antibiotics. Still have to wait for the culture results from the lab. Also, need to have an ultrasound done of my bladder, full & empty. Here's a picture of me and my fantastic PCP, Dr. Maw Maw. She takes really good care of me!

Kelli: Great blog so far!! I love all of your pictures. It doesn't matter if you repeat any of them. They are all so good. I am sorry you have a UTI - yuck! I am glad that you have a great PCP. I do too, but mine is a man. He is really good to our whole family. I don't blame you for deactivating your FB account. It does get time consuming. I keep mine so I can see pictures, but I don't spend much time there. I too would rather be on Transplant Buddies. Now that I have these new lungs, I am finding it hard to get all the things done that I want to get done. I don't spend enough time on Transplant Buddies. I don't know what I am going to do in the summer when Sammy is home. He will take up most of my time. Not that I mind that. This will be the first summer I get to spend with him since he was 1 1/2 yrs. old. Now that he's 6 yrs. old things will be quite different. I am looking forward to it though. I am sorry to hear that your Dad is having trouble with his heart. I will keep all of you in my prayers. I hope you feel better soon. The antibiotics should work quickly. Keep up the fun blog!! God Bless!

Thanks Karen! I bet you remember a lot of the pictures I've posted already, especially the 'fun' ones! I’m getting lots of pictures ready to post on this blog that will be organized in different threads so beware! I’ll be having a lower abdominal ultrasound on June 2nd to check my bladder. Need to drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour before (and hold it!) then go to the bathroom and do another u/s. I’m taking pyridium and vantin for several days for my UTI problem. One of my most recent activities was helping to register donors at Eisenhower Medical Center, where I seem to go far too often (not my transplant center). They sent me flowers for helping. Mostly, I was there to talk to people and show myself as the thankful recipient of a heart and liver.

Thank you Rise' Yes, I am truly blessed, not only to have received the gift of life, but to be surrounded by so many wonderful people, especially my dad. Positive thinking and the right attitude in the face of adversity is also blessing! I am amazed at all the fantastic comments about the book and it is extra special when they come from transplant buddies! Even the doctors and RNs that have read it love the way it was written. Everyone tries to guess which parts are really fictional, but I'll never tell. (smile)

Kelli: I love your blog! I have not finished looking at all the pictures, but I do remember a lot of them. You are so talented and I love looking at all the pictures. I am sorry about your UTI problems and having to have yet another test done on June 2nd. I read all of your medical history. Oh my goodness is there anything you haven't had?!?! LOL!! You are a walking miracle! You are definitely blessed and you bless us too just by being you!!! I am taking antibiotics for a UTI too. I woke up Monday morning with 101.9 degrees temp. Scared me at first. Now that I know what it is I am okay. Mine seems to be responding well to the antibiotics. I hope I don't have to have an abdominal ultrasound. I hope all goes well on the 2nd. That's a lot of water to drink. Keep posting pictures! They are fun to look at! God Bless!

Karen - I think my UTI is gone, too--no symptoms and no reasons for it either. This wasn't even a bump in the road, thankfully. Holly - Thank you, but I have to say, the way you handled what you went through was absolutely courageous. I think you have a wonderful spirit and I truly admire you. I've got nothing on you when it comes to having a positive attitude! All of us in the transplant community are special, we are blessed and we are family! We rock!!! Love to all! Kelli I almost forgot, I was going to say my ultrasound showed that everything was fine. I was happy to know my bladder was okay, but really happy to know my kidneys were working fine. Here's a few shots my dad took outside of the imaging center at EMC. I love palm trees (there's a lot of different kinds).

Kelli: YEAH!! I am so glad that your ultrasound was good!! I am also glad that your UTI is gone. I had to repeat my urinalysis today just to make sure mine is gone. My transplant coordinator was worried that 7 days of Levaquin might not completely clear it up. We'll see. I love palm trees too. I actually really love the landscaping of the south and west. It's so different from Ohio. Keep staying healthy! You look wonderful!! God Bless!

Yesterday, I heard screeching outside and looked out the window. A Cooper's Hawk was sitting on the fence. I ran to get my camera & changed lenses and the hawk was gone. Then the screeching started again so I went outside and crept slowly toward the backyard. I saw the hawk again in our Jacaranda tree with mockingbirds doing all the noise making. I almost never get a chance to get shots raptors, so I leaned against the corner of the house and tried to get it in the viewfinder and then focus. The auto focus went bananas trying to focus on all the branches instead of the hawk. I knew I only had seconds before it flew away and switched to manual focus. Just before it took off chased by several mockingbirds, I got some lucky shots. I should have posted these shots under my "birds" sub-thread, but I still have other ones to post there later. This was an exciting thing for me even though I couldn't focus well with all the branches in the way!!!

Hey Kelli, Aren't raptors fascinating? Last year we had an immature bald eagle that would sit in one of the trees overlooking the water in back of our house. He was there daily for about two weeks, got some shots of him but nothing like yours (needed a better telephoto). Think he fished out the hole and moved on. Stay well, Jack

Back to you Kelli, Took that shot from my backyard - we have similar tastes, can't believe I go through so much hummingbird food (they empty my feeders weekly, I'm using so much sugar the checkout gal asked what I was doing). Stay well, Jack

Thank you for taking the time to share your life with us. You are also an incredible photographer! There are some truly stunning pictures!! God Bless!

Sadly summertime has not come to the Pacific Northwest......well at least the Canadian version of it. Summertime got lost somewhere this year, with all of concern about the oil leak in the gulf. In anycase Summer Summer come out from where ever you are hiding as we aren't having fun in our parkas any more.

Kim - I like the Fall, too cuz it's cooling off and the Spring cuz everything's blooming. Diane - Hope you can get out of your parka and get some sun to warm up your bones! Jack - Thank you! Yep, Phoenix is just like it is here during the summer. Your skin burns in the sun just like sticking your head in an oven. If there was humidity it would be a killer. Only go out when the sun goes down and stay inside during the day with the a/c running non-stop. SD weather is pretty good though! I miss it down there. Rise' - Thanks! I'll try to upload more photos before my bro gets here on vacation. I'll be doing stuff with him for awhile and won't be posting much until he leaves.

Sniff!!! My bro left at 5AM to drive back to Atlanta. Mom went with him and will stay with him for a month. It's going to be pretty quiet around here with just my dad and I and all my cats! Dad will be working on his novel most of the time, except when we go to see movies, etc. Maybe I'll finish uploading another batch of photos to the blog and then I'll post more of my digital artwork, etc. so no one has to see my face plastered everywhere. I made my bro curry chicken & rice to eat for his dinner last night.

Saw my pain doc today. Looks like I'll be staying on Fentora for awhile. This cactus is outside my docs office building at EMC. I'm wondering - Is there any water inside this thing? I think it's a barrel cactus, right???

Easy Kelli, VERY CAREFULLY! Actually you can either cut a hole using a pocket knife and gather the water in a cup (watch them needles) or cut it off at the base and drain it into a container. Best to drive to Circle K and buy a bottle though . . .

No, because all blogs stay on the database. When It comes the time to delete threads due to the overload on the database, I delete the threads that are at the bottom of three forums (conversation, anniversaries and the new to transplantbuddies) I am hopefully not going to have to touch the organ topics, medications and the De-Stress Yourself forums. I just wish I had this plan many years ago. Unless someday somehow, I will hear about a program that can be installed onto this database to allow more storage. I will keep dreaming. This forum was created in 2003 and we can only store at least one year's worth of posts. By deleting the off topics, this will give the site a chance to build up years worth of information in the specific categories.

Kelli: I am so far behind in posting - geez?!? I love the picture with your cat!! He/she is beautiful and so are you! What a great picture. I have been so busy with our new family member. We have a new doggie!! A friend of mine found him and now he lives with us. We all did our best to find his owner, but now one claimed him. He is the sweetest and I fell in love with him immediately. Sammy named him Moe. So...Moe is now our's and we love him God Bless!

My dad has supported me all my life through all my trips to medical hell & back and taught me everything from how to take pictures to thinking positively and to laugh at adversity. A few times I was happy to be able to take care of him when he was sick, but this last time I was really scared to lose him. Watching him struggling to breathe and going away in an ambulance was like a nightmare. Everything he taught me about being brave and laughter being the best medicine was gone. Until he was stable again I was in tears, an emotional mess like never before. My thoughts became negative instead of positive and I didn't like it. All my life I have fought to live and I knew that if I lost my dad I would give up on that fight. My being a rock turned into dust. I guess there is no one anywhere who can go through life without emotional pain, no one. The only thing that keeps us going is hope & faith for better days to come. My dad is home again and time to get positive again. I'll be laughing soon. Love & thanks to all of you who care about other people, that's what makes a difference---caring.

Hi Kelli, You are right, no one is spared emotional pain. But I am so glad that your Dad is on the mend and back home. It can be so unsettling to feel we have lost our rock, our foundation and dive into despair, but there is always a way out. I am sorry that you have had to go through this huge fear. So for now, enjoy the holidays, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, and especially this year with your Dad Much Love Diane PS We have our Thanksgiving in Canada in mid Oct, so no turkey and pumpkin pie for us this weekend.

I love you guys!! Thanksgiving has always been a special day for me, but this time it's extra special. I have so much to be thankful for that I feel blessed. My little family has so much love for each other. I received the gift of life. I've been able to do a lot of fun things in between those hospital stays, but even that was made easier by caring docs & RN's. I have wonderful friends on TransplantBuddies, some I got to meet in person. I even have loving cats around me. Best of all, my dad is still here. I hope you all have a fantastic turkey day (Diane & Meagan in Oct.) and that all your hopes & dreams come true! Love & hugs! Kelli, the daddy's girl

Kelli: What a blessing that your dad is home and will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with the family. Please don't feel bad that you were upset and scared when your dad was in the hospital. Your feelings are so normal. In fact, if you weren't upset then I would be worried. You love your dad and no matter what you tell your brain about being positive sometimes you can't help but feel scared. The thing that matters is that you can get out of the negative and back to the positive. I am a big momma and daddy's girl. I have always been so close to my parents. They were such a huge help to us when I was sick. They spent so much time at our house. They helped with Sam and with me. I will forever be thankful for them. I remember when I my dad had open heart surgery. It was a total shock to all of us. My dad was never sick. He always took care of all of us. He was the strong one in our family. I will never forget that phone call when my sister said that dad had 3 arteries 95-99% blocked - one of them the "widow maker." I sat on the floor of my family and just sobbed. I was sick, couldn't breathe, and I didn't know how I was going to help my mom get through this. I did end up making it to the hospital for his surgery. It was hard. I was not yet on O2 and everything I did was so exhausting, but I made it. I will never forget being in ICU when he woke up. He squeezed my hand and with tears in his eyes he said, "I wish they could fix you like they fixed me." Little did we know at that time that I would get a transplant and I would be fixed. I just share that with you to let you know that you are such a gift and your dad loves every minute he has spent with you. You are both fighting for each other. Just keep on fighting and so will he. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Laugh out loud at every moment. I know this will be a special Thanksgiving for all of you! God Bless!
