Is there any person who who switched from Neoral to Prograf?Origionally I took Neoral;about a year back my doctor changed it with Prograf. The difference,I feel, is that while on Neoral I suffered severe headache after almost a month or more.I told my doctor,he checked my B.P etc,but everything was normal. But when I've been switched to Prograf, the duration between headache got more, and the intensity got less. Now I have not suffered headache for almost 4 months. How is your experience? Pray for me & I'm praying for you. |

I was switched from neoral to prograf when my old doc though that he needed to use a more potent drug. I believed that he was more comfortable with monitoring it ccompared to neoral because that was his regular protocol. For me, neoral worked better. Prograf made my hair fall quite badly and caused a bit of damage to my kidney due to toxicity. It also gave me a lot of problems with monitoring my trough. My trough levels were always very low, in the 2-3 level, but ironically caused significant toxicity to my kidney causing damage. So after a few months I was switched away from prograf. Different people react differently and as long as it works well then that is a good sign, like in your case. In general prograf is considered a superior drug over neoral. And I believe majority of tx centers in the US use it with cellcept and prednisone today.

I have always been on neoral 100 mg a day. I was on a higher dose when I first got the transplant.

Switched from Neoral year to Prograf one year now. Abated rising creatinine levels, presumably due to Prograf being less nephrotoxix.

Zap, I was on Neoral/Cyclosporine for nearly 10 years. HELLO CURLY HAIR!! Just when I started learning how to manage my hair, I experienced rejection and my doctors took me off of it and put me on Prograf. There went my hair!!!! And yes, Prograf has slowly been wrecking my kidneys. Grrrrrrrrrr......
