My 11 month old had a heart transplant on 04/15/2010 and since then he seems to have more bad days then good. He is on 12 meds including Prograf, Cell Cept, Prednisolone Amlodipine Keppra Acyclovir, Bactrim Lasix Difflucan, Nystatin Nexium Poly Vi Sol and since he is not fully talking I am not able to ask him how hes feeling or what exactly is bothering him. He has many days where he is extremely irritable, crying most of the day and can has terrible mood swings. Being his mother I can tell that he's just not feeling well but I wish he was able to explain to me whats going on and which meds make him feel the yuckiest. He never acted so irritable and had a very happy disposition prior to transplant. Can someone please give me some insight and let me know what I can do to make him feel better. I hate seeing my baby this way. I know that the Prednisolone can cause mood swings but i'm sure thats not the only med making him feel so awful;

Marissa, maybe you could approach the tx doctor with the same question. Since the only drug I was on that is in his regimen, I will tell you what I know about prograf. It can cause headaches, and I have had them from time to time. I would not think it would cause mood swings.

Marissa, Can you give all his meds one hour a part and observe his reactions? If you can do this for a few days in a row and write down what you observe, you might have a clue. How does he respond to movement after each dose? Have you ever thought about calling a pharmacist for advice regarding how to give him all his meds? Hopefully the transplant coordinator will tell you how to give him the meds.

Marissa, how much prograf is Kaiden on? the reason I ask is with me prograf made me very,very jittery almost to the point it was unbearable at times. But eventually the doctor lowered my dose and it got a little better. I still have them , but they are tolerable now. I wish I had advice as what you could do for kaiden......maybe a warm bath and a massage. Do ask you transplant team I'm sure they have great suggestions to offer you. take care and hugs to baby Kaiden Cindy
