Has anyone contacted their transplant team to see if we will be required to get this vaccine this year?

I haven't seen anything but the government issued reports, that are aimed at the masses.

Are your Doc's or Tx Coordinators recommending H1N1 again this year?

I left a message with my team this afternoon ~ no response yet.

As I understand this year the H1N1 and the regular flu vaccine are given in one shot. I plan to get mine soon.

Don, Joe is right. That is what I heard, too.

Since Cisco has already seconded that -- I'll third that... My understanding is also that the H1N1 vaccine is incorporated in this year's seasonal flu vaccine... It would have been last year -- but they got a late start on the H1N1 so they had to go with separate vaccines...

DAP:

I just had my 9 month clinic appointment. I was also told that the flu shot would contain H1N1 and that I should get as soon as it is available from my doctor.

Same as the others have said. Just thought I would ditto it!! :-)

God Bless!

That is correct. I got the flu shot last week and was told it was both H1N1 and the seasonal flu. Make sure you are not sick or over tired when you get it. I was over tired but no fever, and needed to sleep allot more for a few days after my shot. "could be coincidental though."

Thanks everyone!!

I had heard the same (combined with seasonal vac), but was confused (so what else is new) by the government still running advertisements for the H1N1 vaccine.

Thanks again, DAP

I am on the Pandemic team at work, and we got an email in mid August that WHO officially declared the pandemic "over". However, I am still glad the shot this year will include both, and still plan to be watchful for anyone in our office who exhibits symptoms.
I am pleased that they are getting a lot of the shots out early this year - around here you can at this time get your flu shot at local pharmacies.

I had my flu/H1N1 shot 3 days ago. My heart tx team at NMH are fine with it. I have a little soreness in my wee little muscle - but otherwise feel fine.

Thanks for all of the responses!!

I spoke with one of my transplant coordinator today ......

1) Verified that H1N1 is mixed in with the seasonal flu vaccine this year.

2) This is the ONLY vaccine being produced this year.

3) The government continues to confuse people by running advertisements to get the H1N1 vaccine. Apparently part of an effort to use up last seasons vaccine.

I plan to ask my nurse about getting my flu shot when she comes to take my labs this coming Wednesday. Thanks for reminding me with this post, and I am glad that you finally got the answers you were seeking so that there is no more confusion on this issue at least. Best of wishes and many hugs.
