I reed in one of your posts that you do not take prednisone, after having a dbl lung transplant how is this possible. I am curious because I am going toJ be getting a dbl lung tx and am worried about my reaction to prednisone. Last time I took prednisone for about a month to elevate my blood levels before I had my spleen removed it caused me to break out in shingles. |

John, although being a Heart xplant I also cleared Predisone before the end of the first year. You may want to visit our Library and look also at the lengthy postings on Steroids/Predisone. Shingles obviously are painful and looking forward to another experience adds to ones normal anxiety already present. Please talk with your Transplant team about your concerns. Also note that Rise' just changed her screen name to Organic Gal (has to do with her new mattress and sleep issues). Hope this helps and thoroughly explore this and transplant friends sites.
Cardiac history going back to 1993. Heart Transplant received in Oct. 2004. Interesting first year and have been very physically active ever since. I currently am pro-active with the SE Gift of Life and a member of Johns Hopkins patient administered Heart Transplant Foundation. |

Hi, John. Prednisone is definitely no fun,but it's the best thing going for lungs and we just have to deal with the side effects. I've been on and off for years prior to tx, and now am on 20 mg a day post tx 3 months ago. It has affected my blood pressure, and I am taking bp meds for the first time in my life. I also just finished a 3 day pred blast in the hospital for mild rejection, and today woke up with the lovely "moon face". It is a good drug but unfortunately one with many side effects. Still, we definitely need it to protect our new lungs. Hang in there. Your experience with pred may be totally different the next time you're on it.
