Nicola,
My husband takes this med. It is the generic for Celexa. I think it's helping him. He hasn't had any side effects.

did he feel like it was helping straight away, or gradually over time? I was told it would take weeks to feel it working, but since taking my first tablet, i havnt cried once, which i was doing constantly. I feel unable to cry, which i dont fully feel comfortable with. but its alot better than sitting there sobbing making myself ill

Hello Nicola,
Perhaps the dosage is to strong, suggest that you contact your CF doctor and discuss same.

Nicola,
My hubby was taking this med before he was ever transplanted. Recently, he felt like he needed an increase in his dosage. The doctor increased his dose and it is helping him. He has had a lot of complications with his transplant and has been very depressed. This is a good med for him. Take care.

A family member of mine recently started taking citalopram for depression and anxiety. Initially the medication made her very nauseous and reduced her appetite, but those side effects decreased after a few weeks. She has not experienced any other side effects and has found that over time the medication has helped reduce the symptoms of her anxiety and depression.

Dear Nicola,
I was on citalopram for awhile for depression pretransplant. It seemed to help me a great deal without causing other side effects. I was also glad it could be gotten in a liquid form so I could put it through the j-tube I had then. Eventually though it seemed to lose its effectiveness for me. I am currently taking Venlafaxine, the generic of Effexor. I would talk with your doctor about any concerns you have about how the medicine is affecting you and hopefully something can be worked out. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Many hugs are being sent your way on the wings of hope.
