I HAD DONOR FATHER WITH 4/6 HLA TYPING MY BEST CREATININE WAS 1.2 WITHIN FIRST WEEKS OF TRANSPLANT BUT DUE TO CYCLOSPORINE TOXICITY IT WENT TO 1.9.THEN I WAS MOVED TO SIROLIMUS ALONE WITH AZA AND PREDNISONE.BUT THIS CHANGE DID NT DROP MY CREATININE AS EFFEICIENTLY AS IT SHD HVE BEEN. I DRNK ABT 5-8 LITERS OF WATER DAILY.. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS CREATININE LEVEL 1.7-1.9 IS OK AND ALSO TELL ME YOUR NORMAL CREATININE LEVELS |

Hello HM Qasim, Welcome to the site and our respects to your Father for being a living donor. While not a Liver (Heart) generally they like my Creatinine at 1.4 (or a little lower) - I right at that or sometimes I jump to a 1.6 for no known reason. They like it lower then 1.6 as these drugs are hard on the kidneys. Keep in mind that some foods are also high in sodium and potassium which can affect the kidneys. Perhaps you should talk with a Transplant Nutrionalist. Have a nice day.
Cardiac history going back to 1993. Heart Transplant received in Oct. 2004. Interesting first year and have been very physically active ever since. I currently am pro-active with the SE PA. Gift of Life and a member of Johns Hopkins patient administered Heart Transplant Foundation. Exercise - look around you and don't tell me you can't -Blog |

Welcome to Transplant Buddies, Keep in mind that creatinine is a "marker" for kidney function and it should be used as a relative number for each individual. The value for an "average healthy" adult male is 1.4 or less, females are a little lower, 1.2-1.3. A transplant recipient is not an "average healthy" person, although many of us might dispute that! What is more important is stability and reacting to changes in creatinine. It appears that you were one of the many patients who were sensitive to cyclosporine. Sometimes changing drugs will cause a reduction in creatinine, but in some people the toxicity causes permanent damage. The important thing is to monitor your labs closely and live as healthy as you can. If your creatinine has been consistent at 1.7-1.9, then it is likely your new "average". It is a perfectly acceptable level for a kidney transplant recipient, as long as it remains stable. I was very blest by receiving a kidney from my sister, who was a 6/6 match. i was also fortunate to be part of a weaning program which has reduced my medications to almost nothing. My creatinine has actually slowly decreased as a result as my kidney has grown and is not subject to any toxicity. I started at 1.6 and now I am at 1.3. I take one dose of prograf each week and nothing else. Chuck |
