I'm new to this website. Im so glad i stumbled along this site. Been having many problems resulting from the long-term immunosuppresant meds. I am a 35 yr old that had my first kidney transplant at the age of 16 ( a cadaver) then in 2002 i had to have another transplant due to a vascular rejection. (living donor) received from my sister! So Ive been on prednisone and immunosuppressants (cyclosporine) for 19 yrs.!! That is a looong time to be on a drug that has many negative effects. Ive had to have 2 knee surgeries due to cartlidge damage. I have ostoepenia, drug-induced diabetes. I feel so overwhelmed by the negative effects that im ready to just check out. I wonder if its all worth it. Im 35yr old in a 65 yr old body. I have many melt downs because im so tired of the negative effects is causing me. I do absolutely appreciate the beautiful gift my sister gave me! Everyday im thankful for the best gift i could ever receive. There's times that i have a hard time accepting the fact that my body is breaking down to soon. i don't think any one can truly understand the emotional toll it's taking unless they've been through it themselves. I was hoping by telling my story i could get some encouragement or help as to how others have coped. Or just to know im not alone in having these feelings. |

Welcome to our world Have you reached out to a professional to discuss your thoughts and feelings? Life is never easy, we all have struggles with life and taking transplant drugs can sometimes like you shared can increase an overwhelming feeling that you have not anticipated happening prior to transplant. Think of your gift- what would it mean to be without this precious gift? Think of how much your sister has done for you and how can you show appreciation to the sacrifice she has made for you to live? Reach out to your doctors and work with them on finding a new alternative to living life where you can find certain conditions more acceptable. Perhaps they can wean you down to a lower amount of one drug? Please write back

I understand. I had been taking high-dosages of Cyclosporine & Prednisone for 27 years! And with tons of side-effects. Now I'm completely off of cyclo and down to 2.5mg on pred. I discuss it in detail on the website www.kidneysaresexy.com .. check it out if you can. All the best to you and hang in there; I promise it gets better. |
