HI I am Gene,I got hep c from a tatoo at age 17 over seas in the USMC. I did not know until 2002 when my liver was at a point of no return at Cleaveland clinic, they gave no hope,by2004 I was at UPMC in Pittsburg, I had pulmanary hyper tension they not able to approve me because i also needed lungs they sent me to a cartiologest, but to no avail, then in1-9-09the doctor talked about a double lung liver transplant, after being terminal since 2004 I did not know how to react there was a 40 percent chance I even wake up.not even about rejection, just to waik up.It was 22 hours for both lungs and liver to be done, thier were some complications, but I am alive and well .I pray i never ever need to do it again.it was by far the hardest thing I ever did.I still waik and every day still feel like a miracal and am I am thank full to my donner and all the medical people.I still believe I had to almost die to really learn how to live.Thank you,my friends. |

Wow, amazing story Gene! Glad you were blessed with your trasnplants and recovery! I can't imagine needing to get a liver and a double lung transplant. My boyfriend has been awaiting a liver transplant due to HEP C- HOwever everything is on hold now, since he contracted a bad lung infection (MRSA)- now I'm worried about his pulmonary condition now, and hoping he gets rid of this lung condition too...He's hospitalized and on heavy antibiotics. Thanks for your inspiring words, Lucia |

Does anyone know how often lung / liver transplant have been done? I had a bilateral lung tx in 2006 but now have chronic rejection and down to 23% function. The docs say I needed a lung/liver the first time but they missed the dx. They say if I get a 2nd tx I need a liver as well. thank you. |

Hi Niki, I do not know myself but i would suggest you look on the UNOS site-and, if it does not have the info you are looking for available, you could send an email them to ask. Whatever the answer is I am wishing you a short wait and a long life with new and healthy lungs and liver. May your new journey be blessed with comfort, hope, success and LIFE. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and look forward to hearing your new success very soon Dottie
