Hi there! I am happy to hear you received a kidney tx and I am sorry to hear that your husband no longer wants to be married. It is better to be alone than with someone who does not love you. Hair loss is common several months after transplant but I am sure when you are not stressing out and eating well, your hair will grow back and be better than ever. WELCOME to our World

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your kidney transplant. I am sorry about your marriage. Regarding the loss of hair, I had already lost much hair before my transplant and the long stay in the hospital afterward was just too much, so I had to have my hair cut very, very short. I have let it grow back out again, and with time, it has become healthier. Now that I am about seven and a half years out from my transplant, my hair is about where it was when I was before I started to lose, down to my waist. It may take some time for your body to get used to the Prograf as I have heard of others who have mentioned hair loss as a side effect. I am not sure if the Prograf was a part of my hair getting into such a damaged state it needed to be cut off or if it was just the long hospital stay (about six months due to a complication following surgery) and a need to get my nutrition in a much better state. I hope that like with me, your hair loss will eventually stop. I have used special shampoos and conditioners for damaged hair. I have also heard that biotin can be good for the hair, but I would not take anything without asking your transplant doctors first. I hope you may see an improvement soon. Best of wishes and many hugs.

Hi GirlPK, Congrats on receiving your new kidney. Thinning hair is a common complaint from those taking Prograf. The rate of thinning levels off after about three months on it. I have had two kidney Txs and in between them I was off Prograf for about seven months(returning to dialysis & waiting.) My hair thicken so it is definitely a side effect of the medicine. It is a necessary evil we must endure. Your survival must be your primary concern now. All else pales in comparison. I wish you great success with your Tx and hope you enjoy good health in the future. Welcome aboard our forum. |
