Hi. I don't know if I have posted on here. Perhaps once, a long time ago. My husband is almost 3 1/2 years post dbl. lung transplant. He has been in the hospital a few times. Once with Valley Fever, once with pneumonia and high potassium and once for high INR ( Coumadin level) after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in both lower legs.

He has been seen by a medical Dermatologist for squamous cell skin cancers, and has had MOH's surgery on that. One came back and is now metastasized. It is on his facial nerve and there are two tumors in a lymph node on his neck. It grew very quickly. They did surgery on his cheek to take it out, but left the ones in the lymph node in. He had radiation therapy and they have shrunk. Apparently they can continue to shrink. His kidney function has decreased, so chemo was not recommended. We go back to oncology in about three weeks.

About that time he had his first, as far as we know, episode of rejection. He was flooded with IV steroids three days in a row.

Since the radiation treatments, he is having trouble eating, but until the past year or so, has never been a big eater. However, he is not taking in near enough calories.

The other night we were in ER because his creatinine was 3.6. He had two liters of IV fluids.

My husband is not the best at taking care of himself, especially when forcing himself to eat when he does not feel like it and drinking enough fluids. He used to be a bit lax about his meds, but I think he understands their importance now. He takes a lot of chances with not wearing his mask when he should, but has been very lucky, which I think has given him a false sense of security, but he is realizing how quickly he can get bad, so that is a good thing.

Anyway, I wonder if anyone has had similar experiences? Particularly with DVT's, squamous cell cancer and low kidney function and chronic rejection? Is it possible for him to get a kidney in the future since he has cancer? This really has me worried. Thanks for any comments. My hubby is a good guy and I would love to have him around for at least a few more years, but am thankful for every additional day I get with him.

Hi CJ
Welcome! I do remember a person named CJ but I do believe they were a kidney recipient. :-)

Many of us have traveled similar roads to transplant and all of us have different experiences depending on the condition your body was going into transplant. We are all unique and have different experiences.

We always have to take into consideration that diet, genetics and environmental factors have a good amount of influence to how our body reacts to transplant life.

There are several double lung patients who received a kidney many years later.

I hope you post more often.
