Hi, I am a 72 year old female. My family doctor has not been telling me that my eGFR has been declining over the years. I found out through a temporary doctor I went to when my family doctor was gone on vacation. My labs have always been good or OK. My last lab said that my eGFR is 47, creatinine 1.14, and Glucose 113 (I drank 3 sips of coffee with coffee mate creamer in it before the test). I do not have diabetes. It showed low chloride by one point, CO2 was 28. I am on medications for high blood pressure, my blood pressure has been pretty good but fluctuates. I am on a water pill that I was put on just a few months ago when I got this test done. I have a history of UTI's and kidney infections but not recently. My sodium was a little low also. I do not drink water much, just enough to take my medications. I drink coffee with creamer and sometimes Gatorade, orange juice and started drinking the Naked fruit/vegetable smoothies. I thought maybe the eGFR is low from being dehydrated? I had a dipstick urine test and it was normal with a trace of blood found. I'm getting an ultrasound done this week. I'm just really worried I have kidney disease. I just now found out about this and my doctor never mentioned anything to me about it. He told me to drink more water before though.

Your creatinine (Cr) is a little high (I believe normal for you would be 1.12). Since you appear to be worried, you should see a nephrologist. My sons Dr didn't send him to a nephr until his Cr was 1.17 and my Dr didn't send me to a nephr until my Cr was 2.3. To ease your worries, currently my Cr is between 1.6 and 2.0 and has been stable at this level since I received my transplanted kidney 3 1/2 yrs ago (I am 77 yrs old) and neither I nor my nephr are concerned. From your brief personal essay I do not see that you are doing anything wrong or unhealthy. I expect your nephr will tell you the same thing. In case you didn't notice, I totally ignore the eGFR value and rely solely on the Cr level.
