Hi everyone! My name is Sean, (as you can probably tell from the identification info to the left) and I'm a 25 year old from Long Island, NY. I received my double-lung transplant this past May at Columbia-Presbyterian. Although it doesn't seem like this specific Topic of "New on TransplantBuddies" is all that busy in regards to responses to new members' questions, I figured I have nothing to lose by asking a question here (with the exception of 5 minutes of my life ;) ). So, what is the difference between this site and Transplant Friends? Thanks for any and all help. Peace be with you all. |

Hi and welcome, Sean, and congrats. I got mine in Columbia in May, also, but it was in May, 2007. This is just my take on it What's the difference? Mainly format. The friends site is certainly about transplants and issues, but at friends, much of the discussions have nothing to do with transplants. We discuss music, books, the news, whatever. And, the format is more socially oriented, while here at Buddies, we use the forum format that so many people on internet health forums use. Additionally, not all members are on one or the other site. Some, of course, are members of both, but there are many people who prefer one format or the other. Again...not an official answer, but just my take on it. I'd also like to say that we have thousands of members here at buddies/friends, so this is a great place to discuss our issues. And, thanks so much to Rise', who has put this all together for all of us.

Welcome, Sean. I am glad that you have been blessed with the gift of a transplant. Long may it last. I think that Jay did an excellent job of describing the basic differences between the two transplant web sites. I enjoy experiencing the different styles of them both. Best of wishes.

Welcome Sean to Transplant Buddies Here is some background information regarding the two sites. Thank You Jay for sharing your points of view! Excellent and so detailed. http://www.transplantfriends.com/page/about-us I had lots of help putting transplantbuddies together. First there was one message board that I created back in late 99. Then came transplantbuddies.com. As the years followed, a bunch of other message boards were created. Along the way, I met John B on another boardhost board and from there he put this current forum together along with additional pages. I run the forum from the admin end but know just enough to get by while John still handles some of the regenerating/ adding logos and other projects around here. As far as Transplant friends. I put the entire site together through a platform called Ning.com Knowing a small amount of html can help and Learning code along the way helps a great deal. What I enjoy most about helping others is my creative abilities to combine the two. Lately, I have been enjoying creating organ donor awareness banners that I share on facebook. Enjoy the sites!
