Hi. New to this forum, and would like to dialog with others who have new lungs who live in the Miami area. I currently live in the Midwest, and thinking of moving.

I guess one of my questions is how does the high subtropical humidity affect us. Is there a higher risk for opportunistic fungal or other types of infections?

I have other questions, but I want to start with this one in particular.

Thank you and I look forward to your responses.

Hi CGautier

Welcome:-)
YES! I live close to Miami and I love the weather. I am a two time double lung transplant recipient.

I have not acquired any fungal infections pre or post transplant.
I believe this is due to eating a healthy diet. Just my opinion-take it for what its worth.

Take care

Hi Hostess Risé,

Thanks for such a quick response, and warm welcome. I edited my profile some to reflect a little about myself.

My biggest problem post-transplant has been the psychiatric side-effects of Prednisone. I'm sure others can relate. So, I'm spending this midwestern deep chill working on it. I call it "The Winter of My Discontent", an hommage to John Steinbeck, one of my favorite authors.

Here's another question: How is care for lung tx patients in the Miami area? There's probably a thread relating to this, and I'll look for it.

Sincerely,

Christian Gautier

Hi Christian :-)
I remember the author John Steinbeck from the eight grade. Great author. I read "Of Mice and Men". Prednisone is not an easy drug. There are many threads on Prednisone discussion. I do not believe there is a specific thread on mood swings or there is, I have not seen it appear around here lately. Feel free to create your own thread any time.

I love my transplant center located in Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital (Dade County) Dr. Fertel is the Medical director of lung Transplant.

Since I live in Broward County- I have a CF specialist at Cleveland Clinic Dr. Hadeh. He is excellent and really cares about his patients.

I see that you are a CF patient~ This is great to know- Thank you for joining us on Transplant Friends!
