Just an FYI for those who might be interested on attending the Fall 2014 UNOS webinar, where one of the topics discussed involves ECMO data.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as an artificial lung to temporarily support patients with severe respiratory failure. In many cases, ECMO provides adequate support without the need for mechanical ventilation, and sometimes even allows patients to get out of bed and exercise. This permits them to maintain or even improve their physical conditioning rather than allowing it to worsen, greatly increasing the likelihood that they will be successfully transplanted.
Here is a white paper from Columbia University Medical Center and NY Presbyterian Hospital on ECMO published in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

ECMO has been discussed here in the past, and tomorrow, UNOS is offering an Webinar on non-discussion topics which include proposals that will be voted on at the regional meeting, but will not be presented or discussed during the meeting.
One of the topics in the Webinar is the proposal to Collect Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Data upon Waitlist Removal for Lung Candidates(Thoracic Transplantation Committee).

Here are other topics that will be discussed:
Following is a list of proposals on the non-discussion agenda that will be presented on the webinars:

· Proposal to Convert KPD Contact Responsibilities and Donor Pre-Select Requirements from the OPTN/UNOS Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program Operational Guidelines into OPTN Policy (Kidney Committee)
· Clarification of Multi-Organ Policies (Policy Oversight Committee)
· Proposal to Automatically Transfer Pediatric Classification for Registered Liver Candidates Turning (Pediatric Committee)
· Proposal to Collect Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Data upon Waitlist Removal for Lung Candidates(Thoracic Transplantation Committee)
· Proposal to Reduce the Reporting Requirements for the Deceased Donor Registration Form(OPO Committee)
