Hi Starla,

So glad to hear you are thriving. Me too, and I'm 4 1/2 years out. I think the answer to your question is that some people take a double strength 3 x a week, and some take half that every day. I am on the every day plan. I don't know about you, but I get sick less than most of my family and the 'normal' people I know. Hope you are doing some kind of interval, high intensity exercise. It's the new thing and has helped me lose 35 pounds over the last 2+ years.

I am almost 6 years post transplant and my transplant center felt since the Bactrim was damaging my kidneys they would take me off of it. I was very surprised they did not put me on a substitute. They said I would be OK without any PCP protection since it was so long since my transplant and I had not had any problems with my lung.

I would appreciate if you would let me know if your hospital does the same regarding stopping the Bactrim.

Thanks.

Hello JM
Welcome :-)
I stopped taking Bactrim with the first few months after transplant. My white count was too low and so I discussed stopping the drug with my nurse. within a week my white count returned to normal.

Do all transplant patients need this drug? I really do not know but I know I do not need it and that works well for me.

Do not worry but do take good care of yourself.

I am on Bactrim, three times a week due to a toxoplasmosis mis-match between myself and my donor. One of us negative, the other positive. I've been told I'll always be on Bactrim.
