has anybody experienced severe cramps on hands and legs? My mom has been having severe cramps on her hands and legs. Is there anything she can do to make this go away ? I feel really bad seeing her in so much pain. Please if there is any advice anyone could offer that would be great. Thank you, Jenn |

Your mom should get a complete metabolic panel done to check her electrolyte levels, especially if she is on diuretics. I got bad cramping in my hands, calves, and toes. I was diagnosed with low potassium and put on a potassium supplement. In May, my urologist put me on a different diuretic, and my potassium tanked so much I had to spent three days in the hospital until it stabilized. Low electrolytes can affect your heart so I advise her to get the blood test ASAP. Susie |

tonic water with quinine helps... make sure to mix it with lemon or fruit juice because it does not taste good at all.

Magnesium took care of mine. Magnesium works better if taken with calcium and vitamin C. I had cramps for sometime and after my liver transplant they put me on magnesium. Cramps went away. Took me off magnesium and they returned. I take 400 mg twice daily.

My cramps occur in my legs and in my feet. It usually happens if I forget to take my calcium and magnesium, even for a couple of days. Best wishes Diane

Like Diane said, magnesium is fabulous. Urs might be low, but be sure to get it checked out and see if thats the problem because if its TOO low, something might be going wacky with ur new liver. |

. I started eating bananas daily to stop the cramping in my legs, years ago and it worked for me But don't eat to many. When I was in the hospital for a hip replacement, the elderly gentleman in the other bed was eating bananas everytime i looked at him from morning till night people were bringing him bananas. till one morning i saw him colapse and i got the nurses. when the doctors took a blood sample his potasium levels were way to hi and it gave him a heart "attack". The next shift of nurses didn't believe that on the chart the doctors had red lined that he was to have no more bananas but still get a full blood work-up,chem panel and all the rest to check what your problems might be .

I get bad cramps all over my legs, a heating pad on the cramped area always relieved it pretty quick.

All of the above advice is good. I would add.... drink a lot of water, fluids. Sometimes dehydration cases cramps. Its also good to keep hydrated for your kidneys. I get cramps in my hands and feet.
