I have been transplant for 19 years (come this Feb) and have never had any rejection issues. I have had sharp and dull pain where my liver is. Wondering if anyone has ever heard if it is scar tissue or swelling or what? Just curious.

Hi Amy, As far as I know the nerve supply is cut when the transplant is done, and so I am not certain how much of a nerve supply our new livers have. I don't think that most people experience pain in their livers. (not 100%) sure on that one. What can happen though, is the connective tissue or fascia can become tight, and pull on things. But there are other things that can cause pressure and pain. I agree with Bob. I think it would be best to see your Dr. When you talk to the Dr. keep in mind, how often do you get the pain, How long does it last? Is is a sharp feeling here and there, but a dull feeling all of the time? What are you doing when the pain comes? At rest? doing an activity? Both? If you assigned a number to the pain, with 1 being very low, and easy to distract yourself, and 10 being the highest you could imagine, where would you put your pain. Your descriptions of sharp and dull are helpful, are there any other words that you could use to describe the pain? Electrical pain, pressure, sharp like a knife? Dull and thudding, or dull and background pain? All of these things will help your Dr. sort out what is going on. Good luck. Diane PS I have changed my profile, so I don't have my photo up etc yet. Did you lift anything heavy or any kind of strenuous exercise? I've had pain there before but usually caused by something like that and goes away. How long have you had the pain? I agree, call the doc....hope its nothing serious!
