Not sure if any of you remember me. My Dad had his liver transplant in May of 2010. He was doing great til this past summer when he discovered a lump on the top of his head. After getting some run a around they discovered it was Hepatpcellular Carcinoma. Basically, cells from the cancer in his old liver are circulating around in his blood until they find a good place to deposit themselves. Luckily this time they picked on top of his skull. Since it is not affecting any major organs he is okay....for now. He had radiation and it stabilized it for a bit but now it is growing again so he is going to be getting gamma rays. Hopefully this will take care of it but now we have the uncertainty of where it will go next. His lungs, lymph nodes? As you know because of his already suppressed immune system he can not have Chemo. It's pretty much a death sentence when it hits somewhere else. I guess I don't really know the point of my post except that I just wanted to whine about it. It seems so unfair that my parents had to go through all this liver crap and you think it's all better and now this.Just like it isn't fair when any of you have gone through a transplant and then it rejects or whatever. It puts so much stress on my Mom and I feel horrible for her.

Hi Michele,

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I also had HCC, the Drs. thought that I would not last longer than 2 or 3 months post tx. I received some chemo after the tx. but was stopped after 7 sessions b/c I had severe anemia. I started getting better after that and this July, thanks GOD, I'll be 6 yrs post tx.
I know it's not easy but do everything you can to maintain your Dad in a positive attitude.
Best wishes,

Bob
