Do yall wear a medical I'd? I am at a new job and don't really want to go through my past (alcohol cirrhosis). People have asked about my bracelet and I avoid the question. I'm thinking about taking it off. Thoughts?

Hi New Man Thank you so much for reminding me. I have a pretty medical ID bracelet and I have been meaning to put it back on. The other day I almost fell outside my home and I did not have my medical ID bracelet on. My husband was not home and if I really did fall, nobody would know my history. I believe the reason why I fell was I did not have my sunglasses on and I was blinded by the light for a second and missed and tripped over a stone. Thankfully, all of my balance exercises have payed off. I would wear it! No need to disclose all information. People are nosy and if you change the subject, they will eventually get the hint. It is your life and be proud of yourself.

I wear a gold chain with a gold medical ID tag on it. It is very discrete and contains the necessary information on it. No one has ever asked me about it. Mike

I wear one, it just says my name, "Liver Transplant", "Immunosuppressed" and the name and number of the transplant center on the underside. People generally don't ask about them since they are becoming more and more common.

I wear a road id (www.roadid.com) . It's a sport band with a section you engrave in case off accident while running or cycling. Nobody asks about it. I think they probably think it's a watch turned around backwards.

If people ask you why you are wearing it, just simply say because i do. if they ask if you are sick say, no more or less than anyone else. or you can say do you like it, well thank you. people ask many questions that are really inappropriate to ask for adult.

Is this an American thing? Do we have them in the UK? I'd like something that identifies me as a transplant patient so I don't have to keep telling the same old boring story.

I guess I am the odd one, I could care less who knows about my transplant. That being said, I dont have a bracelet...should get one, I know! Assuming I did and someone asked about it, I would just come out and casually say, I had a liver transplant. I started a new job in January; I didnt tell them about my transplant at but then got really bad sick a month later and was admitted so told them then but they were really cool about it...came back a little over a week later with a doctor's note and that was that.

I wear a bracelet and no one has ever asked about it. I was just wondering how long we should wear it. Is this a forever thing... I also have no problem telling anyone I had a liver transplant if it comes up. I had cirrhosis but never drank or took drugs. Mine came from a fatty liver called .. NASH,,,..non alcohol steato hepatitis... therefore cirrhosis does not automatically mean heavy drinking. If someone thinks that about me I really don't care anyway. I am just grateful that I am better.

I wear a necklace, I picked it over a bracelet in part because it is more comfortable for me and in part because it is more discrete. The ID tag thing is low enough I can put it underneath my top. I don't think I have ever been asked about it. Some people at work know I have had a transplant, others don't. It's up to you how much you tell to whom. My understanding is that we should wear them forever, because we have had a transplant forever. I'm not sure what they would do differently in an emergency situation because I have had a transplant, but apparently they need to know it. Also if you have any medication allergies or other medical conditions, those can be added.
