A couple days ago, my fiancé took me to the hospital for a staph infection. I was then give diflucan for a yeast rash on my skin. I started to feel horrible, and had a fever of 99.7 and felt completely out of it. I have been nausea and feeling HORRIBLE , so I gave my liver coordinator a call, and she told me they should NOT have given me Diflucan because it cause Prograf levels to raise up. I was furious, so I gave the hospital a call and told several people, and after a game of playing transfer tag, I left a message saying I was furious and they had better call me back to resolve it. Not a word. My fiancé called pissed 2 times today, same thing happened to him, and he left an urgent message as well. I will NOT let this go. If they continue to not call me back, should I go up there? (Only reason why I haven't yet is because its 45 mins away and gas money is tight) Is this grounds for taking legal action?

Hi Abbe Just curious- are you furious with the transplant center or the local hospital that you went to? I hope you feel better- I would concentrate on getting well as the negative feelings can only hurt you more. Always tell any doctor before they give you any medication to check with your transplant team first. There are many known drug interactions when taking immuosuppresants and Diflucan is one of them. If you were only on the drug for one day, I would not be too concerned. There are patients that can take Diflucan but they need to have their drug levels checked frequently. Was your Prograf serum level greatly affected?

It was Osceola Regional Hospital, which is a lot closer to my house, It doesn't matter if it a regular hospital, they should have known this, or contacted my drs themselves. They didn't even ask what meds I was taking. The I haven't had my levels checked since last May because my Medicaid was cut off without warning. I am now receiving only two pills - Prograf and Myfortic - for free from the companies since I cannot take all of the other meds cuz I simply cannot afford it...which is pretty sad and VERY harsh against transplant patients. When I went into the hospital, two of the nurses came in and I was asked my ailments. I then showed a rash that all over my body for like 7 months. They did not ask me my meds, nothing. They both left again, and in about 15 min, I was ready to go home. They gave me Septra for the staph and Diflucan for the yeast. Later on, my temper soared up to 99.7 and I felt so crappy, it was insane. No energy, just general feeling of malaise. I almost got nausea and threw up once, Then the next day(today), I had gone to bed at 7 and woke up at 2:33 this afternoon. What do I do if they don't call back? Should I drive up there and cause a scene? Cuz I will, they don't seem to care that they could have easily killed a patient and that makes me livid, what should I do? Can I take ;legal action??

Hi Abbe I am going to share this thread on Transplant Friends.com where there is a large participation group. I would simply get well first and focus on productive things. Where is there damage? I am sorry when it comes to lawyers, I have little or no knowledge about this. Thankfully you are ok and there was nothing that caused you harm- you got the proper information you needed and if you are ever in the hospital again, you will know better and speak up and remind your doctors.
