Is it normal to have a low haemoglobin count 3 days post kidney transplant. Haemoglobin count is 6.5, have hard time breathing and have to be on respirator on and off. How to increase the haemoglobin count? Any ideas or advise? |

Hopefully you're producing blood cells and your Hg has gone up. If your Hg has not recovered the docs have probably given you a series of injections of EPO which will increase your Hg to where they are satisfied. My kidney took about 18 months to where my Hg was to its normal value of ~13. |

Hi Sumi, This is very normal, with time your level should return to normal ranges. If not, your Tx team will likely order an injection of EPO (epogen) to stimulate red cell production. Congrats on receiving your transplant and stay well! |

I am 14 years post kidney Tx. My blood count recently dropped to 4! I was hospitalized and given 4 units of blood. My symptoms were difficulty breathing, rapid heart beat, extremely weak and a severe ill feeling constantly. I could hear and feel my heart beat in my head constantly like a dripping faucet. I am now taking Procrit (epogen) which causes some side effects like sharp chest pains, back pain and swollen feet and ankles. |
