I was in the same situation, Holly. When they did the initial testing for my husband, I signed up as a potential donor. They did bloodwork on me, but that was it. A comment was made about my weight, but they did not tell me at the time I would have to lose weight to be eligible to donate. It wasn't until he was approved and I made it clear I wanted to donate that they told me I had to be at a certain weight.

It was frustrating, and it took 9 months for me to lose almost 40 pounds - a pound or two a week was about the max. It really was a blessing for me as I would not have lost the weight without the donation as motivation.

The best I can tell you is to keep at it, keep motivated, keep in contact with the center. It will happen and it will take some time. You can do it!

Hi, I am new to transplant buddies. I am on my 4th kidney transplant as of March 2012. My creatinine level baseline is 1.8. I recently had shingles and gave labs a week later. The creatinine was 2.08 today from my lab work. My prograf level is normally 7.5. And today it's 10.2. Can someone tell me if my creatinine jumped that high due to the higher prograf or the antibiotic acyclovir from the shingles. Probably a dumb question but I'm paranoid after losing 3 kidneys in the past 9 years. In conclusion,I left a message for my transplant coordinator but they are so busy they can't call you back for long periods of time. Thank you if you could give me peace of mind.
