My name is Chandler West and I am a photojournalist based out in Chicago. Almost 7 years ago I a heart transplant, after I was diagnosed with an idiopathic cardiomyopathy when I was just 16-years-old. I can’t help but spend a great deal of my time recounting how it felt to spend so many hours in those hospital rooms and so many months on the waiting list. During those days in the ICU, it would have seemed laughable to imagine life turning out the way it has. And its all thanks to a girl I will never meet - Lauren Lynne Lueth. She was 17 at the time, just six days younger than I was, when she was in a fatal car accident and her heart was passed along to me. Every day I want to say thank you to her. I know I am not alone in this, which is why I am here. I am looking for fellow organ donation recipients that would be interested in being a part of my ‘Thank You’ project. The goal of the project will be to work as an open thank you letter to all our donors for all the extra time and life experiences they have given to us. If you are interested, please contact me with a bit about your transplant and how/what you are doing now. I would love to give you more detail and chat about the project. Hope to hear from some of you soon! You can also check out some of my work at my website at http://chandlerwest.com. Chandler twitter/instagram: @wwestz email: wchandlerwest@gmail.com |
